About the Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Duane Gardiner
Duane Gardiner joined the faculty of the College of Agriculture in 1989. As a faculty member he authored/coauthored numerous refereed articles and four editions of the Prentice-Hall textbook Soils in Our Environment. He served as chair of the Department of Agronomy and Resource Sciences from 1997 to 2004, after which he moved to Central Administration to work on accreditation issues and to direct the Quality Enhancement Plan. He served a multi-year term as chair of the Council for Assessment and Planning. Gardiner has served as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Accreditation Liaison since 2008.
His awards include the college Faculty Award of Excellence in 1994, the Javelina Alumni Association Distinguished Research Award in 1999, and the college Senior Teaching Award in 2008. He was chosen to give the Annual Faculty Lecture in 2009, and received the Las Luminarias Bringer of Light award in 2014.
Gardiner received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Utah State University, and his Ph.D. from Oregon State University.
