The art of quilting is on display at the John E Conner Museum at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in the annual exhibit A Celebration of Quilts. It will be in the west wing of the museum through Thursday, March 6.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the museum. Refreshments will be served and the event is open to the public.

This year’s exhibit is dedicated to the late Shirley Jones, a local quilter who passed away last year. She was one of the founding members of the Kingsville Saturday Quilters. She also served as secretary to the president of Texas A&I University for many years. Several of Jones’ quilts will be displayed in the museum lobby, including this year’s signature piece entitled Hummers

Also new this year is the Viewer’s Choice Quilt. Museum visitors may vote on their favorite quilt with the winners announced at the reception Jan. 16.

“We are very pleased to welcome the Kingsville Saturday Quilters back once again for our annual Celebration of Quilts,” said Jonathan Plant, museum director. “These talented individuals never cease to amaze me with their skill, creativity and dedication to detail.”

The Kingsville Saturday Quilters meet the fourth Saturday of the month at the Kleberg County Extension Building in Kingsville.

The museum is located at 905 W. Santa Gertrudis Ave. Museum hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission to the museum is free, however, donations are accepted. For more information, call 361-593-2810.
