Biology and Health Sciences Scholarships


Undergraduate Scholarships

To be eligible to receive the scholarship a student must:

  1. Be a pre-med Biology major.
  2. Have completed at least 30 undergraduate hours when scholarship is awarded.
  3. Have a 3.25 or above grade point average.
  4. Be enrolled for the subsequent Fall semester for at least 15 hours.
  5. Provide to letters of recommendation. (At least one from a science instructor)

Available for High School Students as incoming Freshmen and Freshmen transitioning to their second or third semester (retention), including Freshmen transfer students.

Requirements for High School Students:

  1. Submit an official high school transcript including class rank.
  2. Submit a list of extracurricular activities and community service.
  3. Submit a list of any special honors or award.
  4. Identify their intended field of study.
  5. Be enrolled at TAMUK as a Biology major in the subsequent Fall semester for 15 hours.
  6. Provide two letters of recommendation (At least one from a science teacher).

Requirements For TAMUK and Transfer Students:

  1. Less than 40 undergraduate hours              
  2. Be enrolled at TAMUK as a Biology major in the subsequent semester for 15 hours.
  3. Be in good academic standing.
  4. Provide two letters of recommendation (At least one from a science teacher).

This scholarship is awarded to Texas A&M University-Kingsville students in the College of Pharmacy, or students that study Pre-Pharmacy. Contact the Department Office for more details.

Graduate Assistantships and Scholarships

The Department provides financial support for Graduate Students  via competitive scholarships and support in the form of teaching assistantships during their pursuit of the MS in Biology. Scholarship applications are available at tamuk.academicworks.com. Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA) are offered on a competitive basis.  College of Arts & Sciences Graduate Assistantship/Scholarship Applications are available here. Completed GTA applications should be submitted to Chang.Sung@tamuk.edu.

In addition, limited departmental teaching assistantships are available as well and provide variable hourly employment as an assistant.  Biology department applications are available here. Completed departmental TA applications should be submitted to Ashton.Crocker@tamuk.edu or Shawnda.Kumro@tamuk.edu. We encourage prospective applicants to submit applications for both GTA and departmental TA positions. Applicants from other graduate programs will not be considered for any teaching assistantships in the Biology program.
