Transient Applicant


Definition

A Visiting Student (formerly known as a Transient Student) is a student seeking admission to classes for only one semester with plans to continue their studies at another institution. Please be advised that a Visiting Student is not eligible for financial aid.

Application Dates/ Deadline 

Applications for each academic year open on July 1 at Apply Texas (GoApplyTexas.org).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the application deadline will be the first day of class for each term.  

Documents Needed/Required Credentials

All materials must be received by the application deadline.
  • State of Texas ApplyTexas Application – Completed.

* Please select the Transient Application. 

  • Nonrefundable Application Fee $25, $40 starting for Fall 2022 applications. Credit card payments via ApplyTexas are preferred. Checks and money orders made payable to TAMUK are accepted.
  • A complete, official transcript from the latest and last college attended or high school if the applicant has not attended college. Must be mailed in a sealed school envelope or submitted electronically from the institution attended. 
  • If you are a permanent resident you must submit a copy of both sides of the permanent resident card or I-485 prior to enrollment. If the application is in process please provide a copy of I-797. If under 18, a copy of the parent’s permanent resident card is also required. 
  • If Texas resident based on SB 1528, must submit the SB 1528 affidavit prior to enrollment.
  • All students under age 22 entering an institution of higher education (public or private) must provide proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination within the last five years. More info provided at the Bacterial Meningitis website

 Admission Requirements

To be considered for Visiting Student admission, applicants must: 

  • Be in good standing with their last college attended, and; 
  • Have a 2.0 or higher GPA 

Applicants whose native language is not English are also required to submit proof of English proficiency. 

  • A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 61 (Internet-based) or 500 (Paper-based) is the university minimum requirement. A higher score of 79/550 is required for all applicants to programs in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering.
  • Test scores should be from a test date within two years.
  • Test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to be considered official.

NOTE: Visiting Student status is valid for one semester only. If you wish to attend more than one semester, you will need to request permission from the Office of Admission.

Permission to continue as a Visiting Student for more than one semester will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Other Important Information 

  • Visiting students are admitted for one semester only. 
  • No transfer credit is granted for Visiting Students. 
  • If a Visiting Student wishes to pursue a degree at Texas A&M-Kingsville, they must follow the appropriate admission application procedures. 
  • Visiting Students are not eligible for financial aid.
