The public is invited to attend the interactive Javelina Creative Music Concert at 3 p.m. Friday, July 15, in Jones Auditorium at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. This free concert is the culmination of a two-week intensive training program by music teachers in the Orff-Schulwerk method.

Music teachers from South Texas, New Jersey, Mexico and China have been at Texas A&M-Kingsville learning the Orff-Schulwerk method from university music department faculty. This creative concert will give the community an extraordinary opportunity to experience the unique approach through Orff-Schulwerk.

Creativity is one of the most important aspects of the Orff-Schulwerk approach of teaching music. Being creative demonstrates a person’s growing musical independence and flexibility in musical thinking.

The A&M-Kingsville music department has a long history of hosting Orff-Schulwerk summer teacher training since 1995. This invaluable experience nurtured the professional growth for pre-service teachers and in-service teachers in South Texas.

This event is sponsored by the Texas A&M-Kingsville Service Learning Committee, the Department of Music, the Wild Horse Orff chapter and the National Association for Music Education. For more information, email Dr. Catherine Tu at kumt2018@tamuk.edu.
