Javelina Rodeo Team to host college championship rodeo

The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Rodeo Team will host the Texas A&M University-Kingsville General Ricardo Sanchez Annual College Rodeo Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, at the Equestrian Center at the Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds in Robstown.

Teams from other colleges and universities in the region are expected to compete. A preliminary round will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and the finals begin at 3 p.m. Saturday. Slack will be held from noon to 3 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to midnight Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Admission is free

Events at this year’s rodeo include bullriding, bareback riding, tiedown calf roping, girls breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, girls goat tying, team roping and girls barrel racing.

Texas A&M-Kingsville has the only collegiate rodeo team south of San Antonio. They compete in 10 rodeos per season to accumulate points for the college championships.
