An art exhibit by members of the Kingsville Playhouse of Design will be on display Tuesday, Aug. 8, through Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the John E. Conner Museum on the campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville. A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8.

The show features 78 works by local artists in various media including watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings; pastel drawings, photographic art; woodcarving; and mixed media.

The Kingsville Playhouse of Design holds a major exhibition every two years at the Conner Museum and has a window display at Harrel’s Kingsville Pharmacy seven months of the year.

“I’m impressed by the quality of artwork produced by our local artists. It was a pleasure to curate this exhibit,” said Ralph Cuevas, museum curator. “I enjoyed seeing the vast array of media these talented folks used in their works.”

“All of our artists’ work comes from the heart,” said Dawn Bolinger, group president. “I am so impressed with the quality and range of my fellow artists. We don’t see what each other is working on until we have a group exhibition and I am always amazed by the works they produce.”

The Kingsville Playhouse of Design was formed in January 1960 by local residents who wanted to raise community awareness of art and its value. The organization is still making an impact on the community 57 years later.

The group sponsors a scholarship for art majors at Texas A&M-Kingsville and holds monthly meetings at which art instructors give lessons in various techniques.

Anyone interested in joining may email Bolinger at for membership details.

Admission to the exhibit and the museum is free of charge. Museum hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The museum is closed on university holidays. For more information on the exhibit, contact Cuevas at 361-593-2599.
