About Us

A Message from Dr. Spencer, Dean of the Honors College

For seven years Honors students at Texas A&M University-Kingsville have engaged in intense and high impact learning experiences and developed as scholars and citizens. The Honors College creates a unique learning community with students from all colleges and majors across campus. I am honored to join the Javelina Nation as the new Dean of the Honors College.

An Honors College expands the learning environment beyond disciplinary boundaries and gives students a profound opportunity for personal growth. Honors education has the power to improve student learning and open new horizons. While Honors Colleges are key to recruiting and retaining high ability students, the most important aspect is the strength and rigor of the program not merely the numbers of students involved. Honors College courses at Texas A&M University-Kingsville are small courses taught by the university’s best faculty focused on improving students’ critical thinking, writing, and speaking skills. Honors students enjoy undergraduate research opportunities and develop close mentoring relationships with faculty.

In addition to the classroom experience, the Honors College provides a place for students, faculty, and academic staff to socialize in informal gatherings. Our offices are located within the Honors living-learning community in the Mesquite Village West residence hall.

We are excited to welcome our new Javelina Honors students. If you have not applied to the Honors College, please review our application procedures on this website. You can join the Honors College as an incoming freshman, continuing student or transfer student.
