Glossary of Terms


Accessibility - This means that a website's tools and technologies are designed and developed so that people with disabilities or severity of impairment can use them. 

ARIA - Stands for Accessibility Rich Internet Application. This defines a way to make Web content and Web applications compatible with assistive technologies.

Asset factory - Allows users to rubber-stamp new assets with certain configurations and content already in place.

Bread crumbs - a list of web pages, often located at the top of a page, that helps a user orient themselves to the site.

Cascade - Cascade is a web content management system for creating stand-out websites that deliver personalized visitor experiences.

Child folder - Folders are referred to as child folders when they are located inside another folder. They are the children to the parent folder they are located in.

Clive - Is a Hannon Hill product that enables users to create custom forms, no programming skills required. The forms you make on your web page allow you to store data your visitors fill when they submit a form. Data compiled from your custom forms are easy to access and organize. Clive makes managing forms and submission notifications simple to use and easy to access.

Content page - A simple type of page that allows for information such as text, images, accordions, and links to be displayed on.

Department sub links - Department sub links are the links that will appear on the near the top of a page usually under the banner with the page title and folder name. This allows for the organization of important links that should be highlighted for the user.

Display name - Commonly the short name of the asset title. Similar to a breadcrumb link or site map reference.

Domain - The location of a website.

Editor - The editor in Cascade is the place in blocks and content/landing pages that allows for text, links, buttons, images, accordions, etc. Not every asset factory in Cascade has an editor, but it will be labeled in those that do.

External link - Any link that goes to a different domain.

File - Can hold pdfs, images, or word documents that you want to add to your page. This helps organize your assets so that they are all accessible in the same file.

Folder - Can hold asset factories or assets like links or files.

Folder Tree - A container that is used to organize folders and files in a hierarchical manner.

HTML - Stands for Hypertext Markup Language. This is a standardized system for tagging text files to achieve font, color, graphic, and hyperlink effects on World Wide Web pages.

HTTP - The full form of HTTP is 'Hypertext Transfer Protocol'. HTTP offers a set of rules and standards which govern how any information can be transmitted on the World Wide Web.

HTTPS - HTTPS stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure. It is a highly advanced and secure version of HTTP.

Hyperlink - Alternatively referred to as a link and web link. A hyperlink is an icon, graphic, or text that links to another file, object, or other web pages.

Index page - The index page is the URL or local file that automatically loads when a web browser starts and when the browser's 'home' button is pressed. The term is also used to refer to the front page, web server directory index, or main web page of a website of a group, company, organization, or individual.

Internal link - Links to pages in the same domain.

Landing page - A term that describes the first web page a visitor sees when entering a website.

Navigation menu - is the menu of asset factories that will appear on the left side of a content page. This displays the other content/landing pages or links in a folder.

Page name - This name becomes the system name of the page within Cascade, and ultimately it will become part of the page's URL, so it's best to keep it short and simple. You can choose a longer or more descriptive name for the Title or Display Name of the page further on.

Parent folder - Folders are referred to as parent folders when they contain other folders in them. They are the parent folder to the child folders located in them.

Site improve - Site Improve is a multinational Software-as-a-Service company that creates cloud-based tools and services for website governance.

Title - The title of the asset.

URL - A URL is an address of a World Wide Web page. The address is in the form of letters and punctuation such as https://www.tamuk.edu/.

WYSIWYG - standing for (What You See Is What You Get), is a system where editing-software allows content to be edited in a form that resembles its appearance as a finished product, as opposed to simply code on a blank screen.

XML - Extensible Markup Language is a markup language that defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable.
