Javelina marketing students present Animal Rescue Kleberg with donation

Posted on Thursday, November 09, 2017

Dr. John Cicala, associate professor in the College of Business Administration, and several marketing students presented Animal Rescue Kleberg (ARK) with a check for more than a thousand dollars after the professor chose to celebrate his birthday by raising funds for the local non-profit.

ARK is  undergoing much-needed renovations, and the amount given by Cicala and his students provides dire assistance for the animal adoption agency.

“We run solely on donations,” said ARK Board President Joy Aynsley.  “With all the recent improvements, and those we have in the works, monetary donations are very crucial.  It’s how we pay our utilities, feed and (provide) medical care for our animals, and provide assistance for those in need within our community.”

The campaign to raise money for ARK came about when Cicala learned about “donating your birthday” to a cause on Facebook—an effort that encourages friends and family to donate to a non-profit. Cicala selected ARK as his cause.

“I was inspired by some of our Javelina Marketing students who had been wanting to fundraise for ARK for quite a while, and the work that ARK did after Hurricane Harvey inspired me to make them my birthday cause.  They are in the process of putting in new kennels, and our donation will help with that, which makes it even better.”

Marketing student, Brittney Vela, was ecstatic to help out the organization.

“It was important for me as an officer of the club to be there because I love animals so much, and I am willing to do whatever it takes to help.”

The donation will help with further improvements happening in and around the building that will allow ARK to house and rescue more of our four-legged friends.

Cat litter, laundry detergent, towels and collars of all sizes are all welcome donations to the organization. For more information about ARK visit:  https://www.facebook.com/animalrescuekleberg/ .
