Welcome to the Wayne H. King Department of Chemical and Natural Gas Engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville! The Department of Chemical and Natural Gas Engineering (CHNG) is one of six departments within the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering. Our department offers various options towards B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in two disciplines. Undergraduate programs include a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or Natural Gas Engineering. In addition, the department offers a Chemical Process Industries Certificate and also a minor in Natural Gas Midstream Engineering, both of which are available to other engineering disciplines. Our undergraduate programs have been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. M.S. graduate degree programs with either a project or thesis option are offered in both Chemical Engineering and Natural Gas Engineering. Qualified undergraduate students can also enroll in the Fast-Track program so they can earn both a BS and MS degree after about five years of study. The Dotterweich College of Engineering also offers multidisciplinary Ph.D. programs, including a specialty in Chemical Engineering, for those who seek careers in academia, national research labs, or industrial R&D. Our department’s emphasis is to train students so they can analyze, troubleshoot, and design fuel, petrochemical, and biochemical processes that are safe, robust, environmentally benign, economical, and sustainable using petroleum, natural gas, and renewable feedstocks with state-of-the-art approaches. We also provide students with the skill-sets to become innovative thinkers while also preparing them to contribute their technological knowledge for the benefit of society and the environment. The Chemical & Natural Gas department has produced many of the past and present great leaders of oil & gas and chemical industries, such as a past CEO of Exxon and founder and current CEO of Howard Energy. Our faculty members have significant teaching and research knowledge and experience derived from both academia and industry that cover the core subjects as well as emerging technologies. Kingsville is a peaceful city near the beautiful port city of Corpus Christi, which is surrounded by a large number of established as well as growing industries associated with chemicals, petroleum refining, natural gas processing, petrochemicals, polymers, mineral recovery and processing. Students also have the possibility of summer internships with both local industries and those in surrounding states. Many of these companies, such as ExxonMobil, Citgo, Valero, Flint Hills, BASF and Celanese, regularly visit the Dotterweich College of Engineering to recruit our students.
