The Javelina Promise Program will cover tuition and mandatory fees for eligible students by first applying federal and state aid, such as Pell Grant and TEXAS Grant, scholarships, and other gift aid. Any remaining tuition and mandatory fees not covered by the aforementioned programs, will be covered by this award

Students who meet all of the following requirements:

Are admitted as an undergraduate first-time in college or as a new undergraduate transfer student
Are Texas residents
Are admitted to a degree-seeking program and working on your first bachelor’s degree
Have a total household income of less than $65,000
Have a valid FAFSA or TASFA (if not eligible to complete a FAFSA) on file
Demonstrate Financial Need according to your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA)
Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements
Enroll for 12 semester credit hours or more during the fall and spring semesters at Texas A&M University-Kingsville
Stay continuously enrolled each semester to remain eligible for the award
Are not in default on an educational loan

New first-time in college students who meet eligibility requirements may receive the award for 8 long semesters or upon graduation, whichever occurs first. New undergraduate transfer students who meet eligibility requirements will be pro-rated based on how many credits they have completed to determine how long they may receive the award for.

There is no application for the Javelina Promise. All students will be automatically considered. However, students must complete their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid) to be considered for this program.

No, this program will only cover tuition and mandatory fees.

Financial Need is the difference between the cost of attendance and the expected family contribution (EFC) derived from the FAFSA.

If meeting all criteria for the Javelina Promise, students can expect to see the award in their financial aid award package after bills have been posted for the Fall or Spring semester. This will usually occur in early August for Fall or early January for Spring. Students who drop below 12 semester credit hours on or before census date, will be deemed ineligible and lose their current term award. Students who drop after census date will not lose their award for that semester. However, your future eligibility may still be impacted if you do not maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

You must be classified as a degree-seeking student. Transient students are not eligible for this program.

You are eligible if you are classified as a first-time in college freshman or a new undergraduate transfer student working on your first bachelor’s degree.

Yes. You qualify if you meet the eligibility requirements; you can start in either the Fall or Spring semester.

If eligible, the program will start covering your tuition and fees the following Fall semester. The Javelina Promise Program assists with Fall and Spring terms only. Please be sure you have a complete FAFSA on file and enroll by the respective deadline.

No. Eligible students who have a complete and valid FAFSA/TASFA will have all tuition and mandatory fees covered through a combination of federal, state, and institutional aid. Students with outstanding financial aid requirements will not be evaluated for eligibility until those requirements are satisfied.

No, this program will only cover tuition and mandatory fees.

Late payment fees, late registration fees, excess credit hour fees, class repeat fees, drop fees, and any fees for auxiliary services, such as parking or citation fees, are not covered by this program.

No, this program is for undergraduate first-time in college and undergraduate new transfer students working on their first bachelor’s degree.

Students who withdraw after census date will not have any state or institutional financial aid adjustments; however, they will be subject to Return of Title IV calculations for any Federal Title IV Aid they are receiving. Please see Terms and Conditions for returning financial aid funds.

Yes, U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens who meet Title IV Aid Eligibility Requirements are eligible for financial aid and encouraged to complete a FAFSA. All aid will be disbursed as long as students meet the respective program’s requirements.

Senate Bill 1528 students may submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) in order to be considered for state and institutional aid, including the Javelina Opportunity Award.

No, student athletes only need to meet the Javelina Promise eligibility criteria.

All current students will be considered for the Javelina Promise Program and will be awarded if they meet eligibility requirements. Current students will be pro-rated based on the number of credits already completed to determine how many semesters they may receive the award for.

Yes, PSA students who meet the Javelina Promise criteria are eligible.

Students that once stopped attending TAMUK will be eligible and considered for the Javelina Promise program if they return to school in Fall 2022 only. Students must meet all other eligibility requirements.

No, work-study does not count against the Javelina Promise Program.

Students not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) will be given a one-semester grace period to correct the problem. If the student does not regain eligibility, you will no longer be eligible for the Javelina Promise award. If in a later semester you are meeting the minimum SAP, provided you have never stopped attending TAMUK, you will be eligible to once again receive the Promise Program. All semesters of attendance will count towards your 8 eligible semesters regardless of whether you receive the award or not.

Continuing students must enroll before June 1 for Fall or December 1 for Spring.

Yes, first-time in college and new transfer undergraduate students must be enrolled for at least 12 hours by August 1 for Fall or January 1 for Spring.

To be considered for the Javelina Promise, the deadline to submit the FAFSA and all required documents is the 12th class day of the semester you are attending. For important dates and deadlines, please refer to our academic calendar.
