Women faculty and staff gathered during a social hosted by Interim President Dr. James Hallmark at the President’s House on Thursday, March 24.
The event was created to shine a light on women during Women’s History Month.
“The women at A&M-Kingsville are just remarkable in terms of their leadership, the kind of support they provide to our students, the leadership and ideas and advancement of our programs. We just want to appreciate them, we just want them to know how important they are to the success of the students and of the university, and we're very thankful for their contributions,” Hallmark said. “We want to celebrate that. We want to say thank you, and we want to say keep going because you're doing great things for our university.”
Director of Student Engagement and Campus Life, Erin McClure, attended the event and socialized with other women during the social.
“I think that it's nice just to be appreciated, and it's nice to see fellow leaders and see the women that are really exceeding, and seeing the achievements that they've made in the past year,” McClure said.
Regents Professor Dr. Susan Roberson said she enjoyed the event where women were celebrated.
“It's really a privilege, you know when I was in graduate school we did not have very many women professors, and there were not too many of us women students … it was still a man's kind of domain,” Roberson said. So it's really nice to see the women in faculty administration our female students everyone having more opportunities have been recognized for doing the things that they want to do and they have the ability to do.
Dr. Jaya Goswami, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, spoke to all in attendance and gave a brief history of women during the social.
“I think this is the first time we've had an event only for women. So kudos to the organizing committee and also to Dr. Hallmark for recognizing the need for this, and for appreciating all of us women and celebrating all of us women so I'm very grateful and I hope this is a tradition that will continue.”
