Dr. Nuri Yilmazer received the B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Cukurova University, Adana, Turkey in 1996, and the M.S. and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Florida and Syracuse University in 2000 and 2006 respectively. He worked as a Post Doctoral Research Associate in Computational Electromagnetics Laboratory at Syracuse University from 2006 to 2007. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Kingsville, TX. His current research interests include adaptive array processing, signal processing, and smart antennas.
Teaching: Dr. Yilmazer is the recipient of the ‘Professor of the Year Award’, in Electrical Engineering Department, in 2011 and 2012 respectively. He has also received 2008, 2009 and 2010 TAMUK-Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) grant to improve students' success through research engagement at the course level.
Research and Scholarship: Dr. Yilmazer has been conducting research in the field of array signal processing and has extensively published in these fields. He teaches several wireless- and network-related courses in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at TAMUK. He is the author of 8 peer-reviewed journal articles (IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, IEEE APS magazine), and over 20 proceedings. He has participated in roles from PI/Co-PI on different projects. He recently got an award from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as Co-PI in the amount of $700,000. He has received AT&T Research and Technology Award grant in the amount of $25,000 in 2010 which is awarded to three awardees per year nationwide. Additionally, he has been awarded National Science Foundation (NSF) CCLI program grant namely ‘Laboratory-Based Robotics Program at TAMUK’ in the amount of $182,255 (Co-PI). This project aims to develop laboratory-based undergraduate senior level, two-semester robotics courses to prepare students as multidisciplinary engineers for the robotics industry as well as for graduate studies with the joint efforts of the Departments of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He has received two grants for the projects titled ‘Javelina STEM Summer Program’ from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) in 2011 and 2012 in the amount of $124,683 and $121,876 respectively. The grants have been successfully utilized as an outreach and recruitment tool to attract the high school students into STEM-related careers as well as available programs at TAMUK. Dr. Yilmazer has served as reviewer for many IEEE journals and conferences and served as session chairs to IEEE APS 2008, CISS 2009 and DMS 2012 conferences.
Dr. Yilmazer proactively involved in K-12 and community college partner programs such as Young Engineers of South Texas (YESTexas), Girls in Engineering, Manufacturing, and Science (GEMS), and Engineering and Science Frontiers (ESF) summer camps. He has been the co-leader of GEMS camp and leader of the ESF summer camps in 2011 and 2012. He is Senior Member of IEEE.
