Proposal Development & Submission Process

Texas A&M University-Kingsville requires all credit-bearing, faculty-led program to undergo an internal review process that includes approval from the sponsoring department and college, the Office of Global Engagement, the Provost's Office, and the President prior to the program's implementation.

While faculty are not expected to have all logistics finalized at the time of submission, they are however expected to present a substantial and thoughtfully developed faculty-led program proposal for administrative review.

The Office of Global Engagement welcomes early, informal consolation by faculty and academic units for program planning and encourages coordinated programming within and among departments. Below are the recommended steps for faculty to follow throughout the proposal process.

Building a strong program design is the first step for faculty to take when conceptualizing their idea into a successful proposal. There are many factors to consider when designing a faculty-led program and include some of the following:

  • Course Format
  • Co-Curricular Activities
  • Course Designation
  • Program Logistics
  • Program Budget

Visit our Program Design page for more information and resources available to faculty beginning this initial step.

We recommend faculty also reach out to the academic advisor(s) for their department/college as they are an important source for student information. Academic advisors will be able to provide the academic details on how a faculty-led program would best benefit student degree plans. Below are some recommended questions to ask the advisor:

  • What type of course offering would work best with the students degree plan
  • How many students are within the major or college could benefit from attending the faculty-led program
  • During which semester would holding a faculty-led program work best within the students degree plan

If your proposal is approved, advisors will play an important role in promoting the faculty-led program and help students plan for the experience in their academic journey at TAMUK.

In this step, faculty are encouraged to receive preliminary approval of their efforts from their department chair(s), as they will be responsible for certifying that your proposal is supported by your department. Faculty are encouraged to discuss the following:

  • How can the department/college benefit the from offering this program
  • The academic and experiential aspects of the proposed program
  • Others in the department that might be able to teach this program in the future
  • What support, if any, can the department give in helping to promote the program to students
  • Any questions regarding salary or teaching load, if the program is approve
  • The administrative responsibilities faculty will be responsible for within their academic department/college when implementing the program
Academic departments are responsible for review of program and course subject matter and instructional delivery methods. TAMUK courses held off-campus, both abroad or domestically, must be of comparable academic rigor to those offered on campus and pertain significant enhancement to the on-campus offering.

Faculty interested in creating a faculty-led program are encouraged to contact Global Engagement to discuss ideas and learn more about the resources and requirements for leading an off-campus study abroad/away course on behalf of Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Below are some of the topic areas included in this discussion:
