About the Program

The Department of Psychology and Sociology in the Texas A&M University-Kingsville College of Arts & Sciences engages students in the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. The College will offer the bachelor’s of arts in psychology with a health concentration on the Texas A&M University System RELLIS Campus beginning in 2019.

The Psychology program includes the study of psychological phenomena and basic processes necessary to understand human behavior.  Specific areas examined in the program include lifespan development, personality development, motivation, emotion, attitudes, intelligence, physiological factors, the senses, experimental design and research methods, as well as psychological topics of current interest.

The bachelor of arts of psychology promotes critical analyses and creative approaches. It provides a comprehensive level of quality instruction, research, and community involvement. By doing so it supports the academic, research, and service goals of the College of Arts and Sciences and the mission of  the RELLIS Campus—Respect, Excellence, Leadership, Loyalty, Integrity and Selfless Service.

Why Choose the Psychology Program?

• Health psychology is one of the most rapidly developing fields in contemporary academic psychology. It is now the sixth largest among 56 divisions of the American Psychological Association.
• The demand for health care psychologists is expected to increase as these psychologists collaborate more frequently with doctors, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Psychology ranked 3rd among the top student fields of interest in a Texas A&M System and Blinn College study.
• A health psychologist will typically focus on one of five basic areas of work. A health psychologist can become a clinical health psychologist, a public health psychologist, a community health psychologist, a critical health psychologist or an occupational health psychologist. Each focus will deal with different aspects of a person's health and how it relates to psychological processes.
