The focus of this research is to design a new type of bidirectional integrated onboard charger (IOBC), primarily designed for electric scooters. This IOBC will implement an AC-AC step-down converter and use a four-step switching method to mitigate dead-time effects. This design also utilizes an onboard traction inverter where its semiconductors act as rectifiers for efficient low-voltage battery charging. For the purposes of this study, a 500W power rating was used to test the IOBC, similar to the power ratings of chargers currently available on the market. This research is intended to provide a more universal IOBC as well as an innovative approach to convenient charging solutions for light electric vehicles by enhancing on-board integration.
