Alumnus Lopez to hold book signing at bookstore

           KINGSVILLE (November 9, 2018) — Texas A&M University-Kingsville alumnus  Donavan “Captain D” Lopez will hold a book signing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the University Bookstore located in the Memorial Student Union Building (MSUB). Lopez will sign his new book Mexican American Baseball in El Paso.

 

            Following the book signing, a 35-minute film documenting the baseball book project, will be shown at 1 p.m. in room 219AB on the second floor of the MSUB.

 

             Mexican American Baseball in El Paso is part of the Latino Baseball History Project which began as a collaboration between Terry Cannon, executive director of the Baseball Reliquary, and Cesar Caballero, then associate library dean at California State University in Los Angeles.

 

            Over the years, the Latino Baseball History Project has sponsored the publication of several books and collected over 1,600 rare and vintage photos.

 

             In addition to his current book, Lopez authored the history of the famous King Ranch Cowboy Baseball Team.

           

            Mexican American Baseball in El Paso was co-authored by Richard A. Santillan, Eric Enders, Pete G. Flores and Jorge Iber.
