Board of Regents approves Natalya Delcoure as new dean of College of Business Administration

Dr. Natalya Delcoure has been working at Texas A&M University-Kingsville for about a month now as interim dean of the College of Business Administration. However, the Board of Regents of the Texas A&M University System officially named her dean at their meeting Friday, Aug. 9.

Delcoure has wasted no time looking over the college and determining her two main goals. She will work toward getting the college accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and she will implement a redesigned curriculum for the bachelor’s degree program in business administration.

The college is already accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) but the AASCB has become the premier accreditation agency for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs in business administration and accounting.

 “As of July 2013, only 681 schools of business, or less than five percent worldwide, have earned this distinguished hallmark,” Delcoure said.  “Today, the AACSB accreditation standards are used as the basis to evaluate a business school’s mission, operations, faculty qualifications and contributions, programs and other critical areas.”

Achieving this prestigious accreditation will not only help future graduates of the college, but alumni as well. “Graduates and current students also will benefit even if this higher level of accreditation comes after they have graduated,” she added.

The AACSB updates their accreditation standards every 10 years. The new standards, announced this past spring, place emphasis on impact, involvement and innovation. Delcoure says the Texas A&M-Kingsville College of Business Administration has a head start with the new set of standards.

“Our college has close ties to the community and we impact the community at-large. We work very closely with members of the local business community. They provide our students with exciting internship opportunities and we support them in return,” she said. “They provide very strong support and that can help us to really brand ourselves.”

The approval process for accreditation takes up to seven years, Delcoure said. She hopes to have the initial approval in time for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Not only will the community play a role in Delcoure’s plans, but college alumni will also be in the forefront. “Alumni of the College of Business Administration will have an important role to play in my plans for more growth and an enhanced reputation. They will provide valuable advice as members of advisory committees for both accreditation and the BBA program.”

Delcoure also announced that beginning next spring the first group will be inducted into the College of Business Administration Hall of Fame. “This will be the highest recognition given by the college to business leaders whose careers exemplify both individual excellence and dedication to the success of others,” she said. “It is designed to honor, preserve and perpetuate the names and outstanding accomplishments of inductees who have significantly influenced the College of Business Administration.” 

About Dr. Natalya Delcoure

Delcoure has been on campus since July 1, serving in an interim role until she was officially named by the Board of Regents. She most recently was Associate Dean and Endowed Professor of Strategic Leadership at the Lucas Graduate School of Business at San Jose State University.

She has been Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston; assistant professor in finance at Sam Houston State University; and assistant professor of finance at the Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama.

Delcoure earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance at Moscow State University of Railway Engineering, her master’s in business administration at University of Louisiana in Monroe and her doctorate in business administration from Louisiana Tech University.

She was named Researcher of the Year in 2002 and 2004 for the Mitchell College of Business. In 2010, she received the Best Paper Award at the Financial Service Institute Symposium with her paper You! Me! Let’s try to make some MO-Ney! This past spring, she received the Distinguished Paper Award at the International Academy of Business and Public Administration Disciplines conference in Dallas.
