Fashion merchandising program puts Texas A&M-Kingsville in top rankings

Posted on Friday, July 07, 2017

The website Fashion-schools.org has awarded the fashion merchandising concentration within the human sciences major at Texas A&M University-Kingsville an honor by ranking them in the top 10 fashion schools in the Southwest. The program contained in the human sciences department ranked eighth out of schools considered from Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Nevada.

“This is a very important ranking for us as a program. We are a tiny program so it is important that people know we are a quality program,” said Dr. Kathleen Rees, Regents Professor who teaches fashion merchandising in the human sciences department. “We are able to use these rankings in our recruitment information so it helps promote the program.

“This also gives us additional outside credibility, ensures we have a quality program and makes sure we remain on the cutting edge of the industry,” she said.

In addition to the regional ranking, Texas A&M-Kingsville ranked 46th among fashion merchandising schools in the United States, alongside internationally known schools like the top-ranked Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Kent State University, Drexel University, Oregon State University and University of Delaware.

The criteria considered in ranking the fashion merchandising programs included academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of program and faculty and geographic location.
