Ferhat Karaman


Assistant Professor of Psychology

Dr. Karaman earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he specialized in cognitive and developmental sciences, focusing on early language acquisition. He also holds an M.A. in Cognitive Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and another M.A. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

 

Before joining TAMUK, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at University of California, Los Angeles, focusing on language acquisition and cognitive development. Prior to that, Dr. Karaman served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Usak University, Turkey, where he also directed the Karaman Language and Cognition Lab. He has published articles in top-tier journals, including Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory and Cognition, Cognitive Science, Developmental Psychology, and Animal Behavior. He has edited a book titled Children in a Changing World: Effects of Digital Technology on Child Development and contributed as a co-author to chapters in several academic books, including the International Handbook of Language Development. He has also served as the Principal Investigator for several minor grants funded by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.

 

His research explores language acquisition and memory in infants, with a particular focus on statistical learning. He has taught a wide range of courses, from the basics like Introduction to Psychology and Developmental Psychology, to more advanced classes like Physiological Psychology, Experimental Psychology and Advanced Statistics.
