Certificate in Building Systems Engineering


The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering offers an undergraduate level, transcripted Building Systems Engineering Certificate.  While all TAMUK students are eligible to complete the certificate, it is designed to enhance the job-ready skills of students in the B.S. Architectural Engineering program who wish to pursue careers in the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design industry.

Certificate Requirements

The Building Systems Engineering Certificate requires a total of 9 SCH (3 courses), 3 SCH (1 course) of which must be in addition to those used to satisfy the student's baccalaureate degree requirements.  All undergraduate certificates in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering are designed for B.S. + 1 course completion.  B.S. Architectural Engineering students can complete the Building Systems Engineering certificate by selecting their 2 Engineering Electives + 1 additional course from the following options.

Complete the following 2 required courses (6 SCH) with a "C" or higher:

  • AEEN 3310 (Building Information Modeling)
  • AEEN 4346 (Building Systems Integration)

Complete 1 additional course (3 SCH) from the following options with a "C" or higher:

  • CEEN 3393 (Hydraulic Engineering)
  • MEEN 3348 (Heat Transfer)

To make sure the building systems engineering certificate appears on your final TAMUK transcript, be sure to route a completion form prior to graduation.  A completion form needs to be routed for each certificate option you decide to pursue.
