Certificate in Structural Engineering


The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering offers an undergraduate level, transcripted Structural Engineering Certificate.  While all TAMUK students are eligible to complete the certificate, it is designed to enhance the job-ready skills of students in the B.S. Civil Engineering and B.S. Architectural Engineering programs who wish to pursue careers in structural engineering. 

Certificate Requirements

The Structural Engineering Certificate requires a total of 12 SCH (4 courses), 3 SCH (1 course) of which must be in addition to those used to satisfy the student's baccalaureate degree requirements.  All undergraduate certificates in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering are designed for B.S. + 1 course completion.  B.S. Civil Engineering and B.S. Architectural Engineering students can complete the Structural Engineering certificate by selecting their Structural Design and 2 Engineering Electives + 1 additional course from the following options.

Complete the following 2 required courses (6 SCH) with a "C" or higher:

  • CEEN or AEEN 3304 (Reinforced Concrete Design)
  • CEEN or AEEN 4316 (Structural Steel Design)

Complete 2 additional courses (6 SCH) from the following options with a "C" or higher:

  • CEEN 3389 (Structural Vibration)
  • CEEN 4314 (Matrix Structural Analysis)
  • CEEN 4368 (Foundation Engineering)
