Dr. Darin Hoskisson, Professor of Music, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Dean of Graduate Studies


Darin Hoskisson, Professor of Music and Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Dean of Graduate Studies, joined the music department at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2006.

He completed his Ph.D. in Music Theory at the University of Oregon where he wrote his dissertation, “The Grundgestalt and Network Transformations in the Late Choral Works of Anton Webern.”  He was also the recipient of the University of Oregon’s “Outstanding Graduate Scholar in Music” award in 2006.  He received his Master’s Degree in Music Theory from Louisiana State University.  His thesis there focused on Brahms’s Piano Quintet in F minor, op. 34.  He also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Bassoon Performance from Idaho State University.

Dr. Hoskisson is the author of several publications on Webern including Anton Webern: A Research and Information Guide published by Routledge in 2017.  He has also presented papers on various topics at both regional and national conferences.

His current research interests continue to include Webern and the other members of the Second Viennese School composers.  He is also working on 19th-century music in Sweden and on form in music.

Dr. Hoskisson teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory and ear training as well as the graduate Research Methods course.  He has been recognized by the Texas A&M University System Chancellor several times for his outstanding teaching.  He also has served as an instructional coach, mentoring other faculty members in the improvement of their teaching.
