Dr. Guytano Martorano III is currently a freelance tubist and educator in Northern Austin. Other areas of his professional expertise include arranging/composition, music theory, and chamber music. Dr. Martorano is currently teaching within the Lake Travis ISD and is the acting sub for the Central Texas Philharmonic and Austin Brass Collective.
As an educator, Dr. Martorano frequently participates in clinics, ensemble masterclasses, and TMEA officiated judging panels. Within his own studio, he produces educational media for local competitions, such as the TMEA region band. Dr. Martorano also runs a longstanding literacy series, “Transposition Inquisition.” Some of his past appointments have been with Leander ISD, Wayland Baptist University, Lubbock Christian University, and Lubbock Cooper ISD.
Dr. Martorano’s performing interests are diverse and cutting-edge. Anywhere from community outreach, digital media, chamber works, and traditional orchestral/wind ensembles is where he devotes the majority of his efforts. Some past appointments include principal tubist of the Lubbock Civic Orchestra, principal tubist for LSO Educational Brass Quintet, and the acting substitute tubist for both the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and the DFW Brass Quintet. In his spare time, he is an avid music scholar with current research interests in music perception/cognition, early instrumental pedagogy, and sight-reading.
