Assistant Professor of Music, Tuba-Euphonium


Dr. Orth has performed and taught across the country as well as abroad in Germany, Hungary, England, Ireland, Brazil, and Ghana. He has recently performed and presented at the 2019 International Tuba Euphonium Conference, the 2018 Midwest regional ITEA conference, and the 2019 Army Band Tuba Euphonium Workshop. He co-hosted the 2017 Great Plains ITEA conference and performed solo recitals at the 2015 South Central, Midwest, and Great Plains regional tuba euphonium conferences. In 2011, Dr. Orth served as a guest artist and faculty member at the 2nd International Festival of Classical music in Piracicaba, Brazil with the UNT Center Brass Quintet. Dr. Orth has previously held performance positions with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, Dallas Civic Wind ensemble, the Metropolitan winds of Dallas, and the Chippewa Valley Symphony. In the Lone Star Wind Orchestra and the University of North Texas Wind Symphony, under the direction of Eugene Corporon, Dr. Orth performed and recorded as principal tubist on multiple projects including the educational series, “Teaching Music through Performance in Band.”

In addition to performing actively on the tuba, Dr. Orth has been a significant contributor to multiple repertoire projects initiated by the International Tuba and Euphonium Association. In 2007, he assisted internationally renowned jazz artist Jon Sass on the Bassblowaz Club, part of the Creative Impulse series. Dr. Orth has earned degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (BA - music) and the University of North Texas (MM and DMA).
